PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
The Voice
You will be well aware that Australia voted on The Voice referendum as it become known.
It was essentially a fairly simple proposed change, which became very confused through the time leading up to the vote. Some of you would have voted yes and some of you would have voted no.
I am not commenting to take a position on the matter, but I have become quite aware of the considerable upset and hurt that this is causing to most of the Aboriginal people in our community.
I simply ask you today to be aware of how Aboriginal people may be feeling at this time, regardless of what your views are on the matter.
Year 12’s
Our Year 12’s have completed their final school assessments and they will receive their statement of results this week. Some of the students have done extremely well and others may not have achieved all that they would have hoped for.
Education involves more than the achievement of grades and scores. It is a much wider experience for the students.
We do hope that our students have made the best of their opportunities and that they take the learnings both in and out of the classroom, into their next stage of life.
This particular group of students are a fine group of young people, and we expect them to make a contribution to their world. We extend every best wish for the future and thank them for their time at the College.
This will culminate in their Graduation this Friday as this is a special event in their lives at the College.

NAPLAN Feedback Requested
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is seeking feedback from principals, teachers, parents and carers on the NAPLAN changes introduced this year. NAPLAN moved from May to March this year, and changes were made to reporting in order to provide simple, clearer and more meaningful results. ACARA is keen to hear from principals and teachers, as well as parents and carers, on these changes. Feedback is being collected until early December 2023. Semester 2 Examinations – Year 11 ATAR Students
The Semester 2 Examinations are almost upon us for our Year 11 ATAR students.
- Monday 6 Nov – Study Day and Practical Exams.
Students do not need to attend unless they have a practical exam. - Tuesday 7 Nov to Monday 20 Nov – Year 11 ATAR Examinations.
Students are to attend all scheduled examinations.
Normal school rules apply for students when at school and when travelling to and from school. Students are required to:
- Be present at least 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of an examination.
- Be in full College uniform.
The examination schedule is below, and a personalised examination timetable has been distributed to each student via email.
Students need to be studying in preparation for these upcoming examinations as they count towards WACE graduation and will assist in determining which courses they should undertake in Year 12. I wish all of them the best for these upcoming examinations.

Media Showcase - Wed 1 November 5pm - 6pm
Join us in an evening of good food and great films as we salute our young filmmakers. Over the course of the year, our media students have produced a treasure trove of music videos, documentaries, and art films that explore a range of themes that are close to their hearts. The screen is an amazing medium for our youth to tell their stories and make their voices heard. Come down to Mercy Hall on the 1st of November as we celebrate these talented artists and their excellent work. For enquiries please contact Mr Kyle Ganapathy

Year 7 Orientation Day
While most Aranmore students were savouring their last day of the holidays (or last day of exams for Year 12’s), we welcomed our 2024 Year 7 students. As Science is (in my unbiased opinion) the most exciting subject at Aranmore, we made sure that our future Year 7 Scientists got to experience a taste of the fun that Science can offer.
Science Recycling - Can you help?
Out-of-date RATs
In Science, we have been pulling apart the out-of-date RATs as we can use the swabs, little dropper containers and plastic bags in Science classes. If you have a bundle in your home or elsewhere, please send them our way.
Dentist Teeth Moulds
If you have any teeth moulds - the kind you get at dentists or when you get mouth guards made - the Science Department would love to take them off your hands. They are helpful when running forensic activities looking at bite marks.
