PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs)

I am writing to let you know that free Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs), for each student, have now been delivered to the school.

These free RATs will support our students to continue to attend school, for face-to-face learning and will minimise disruption to their schooling. You will be able to test your child at home if they are feeling unwell. You can also use these RATs if your child is a close contact to enable them to test daily and continue to attend school, as long as they receive a negative result, remain asymptomatic, and wear a mask if they are in Year 7 and above.

Vaping

Schools are experiencing difficulty with students who are using Vapes on public transport in school uniform or while at school.

Firstly, it is our understanding that vapes are harmful and therefore we discourage their use.

Secondly, the use of vapes is in contravention of school policy and students will be suspended when they use them.

I ask for your support in this matter.

Mr Declan Tanham
Principal

The schedules can be found attached below.

Y10_Sem_1_Exam_Schedule.pdf

Y11-12_Sem_1_Exam_Schedule.pdf

Normal school rules apply for students when at school and when travelling to and from school. Students are required to:
1. Be present at least 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of an examination.
2. Be in full College uniform.

Students should be studying in preparation for these upcoming examinations as they will govern graduation and university entrance prospects for our Year 11 and 12 students, whilst determining 2023 course selections for our Year 10 students.

I wish all of them the best for these upcoming examinations.

Deputy Principal – Curriculum

Year 7 Bunsen Burners

Now that Year 7’s are the proud holders of a Bunsen Burner licence they can do all sorts of exciting experiments. Here Year 7’s are studying how temperature can affect the saturation point of sugar in water.

Year 10 Reaction Time

There are many distractions for young drivers, for example conversation with passengers and the temptation to text while driving. Year 10 physics students are studying the effect distractions have on their reaction time. Students were surprised at how much their reaction time slowed when they were distracted by someone talking to them or doing addition on their calculator (simulated texting).

Chemistry Careers Talk

Sometimes it is difficult for students to imagine how the Chemistry they are learning in class could possibly lead to a future career. Caitlin Sweeney from Murdoch University came to Aranmore to talk to Year 9, 10 and 12 students studying Chemistry about her experiences and where Chemistry can lead.

In our first two games, we came up against some hard opposition and soccer academy schools. Unfortunately, we suffered a couple of losses, although the games were tight.

The boys did not let this deflate their spirits and put in some great performances for the following two games, which we won convincingly.

Great effort from all the boys showing amazing spirit, leadership qualities and camaraderie.

Year 7 Netball

Our Year 7 Netball team did us extra proud on Tuesday by showing amazing persistence, learning and teamwork to win the West Coast Fever Shield.

Our Year 7 team went through the rounds undefeated, and then won the Semi-Final convincingly!

This earned them the right to play in the Grand Final where they played a closely contested game versus Emmanuel Catholic College. The game produced some quality netball from both teams with Aranmore finishing as the Premiers!

Congratulations to the team as they did an awesome job for the College in their first representative carnival!
