I would like to thank the following teachers for their contributions to the College during Term 3, whilst they have replaced teachers on leave.

Term break

I do wish you and your families well during the term break, and if you happen to have a Year 12 student sitting ATAR exams, do encourage them to make the best use of their time.

A new mobile-responsive website for the College will be launched this weekend. It's planned that the new website design will be live by the evening of Monday 25 September 2023. Unfortunately, while data from the old website is synced,  www.aranmore.wa.edu.au may be temporarily unavailable. We apologise for the inconvenience and look forward to sharing our new, easier-to-navigate website with you!

Please note that the Uniform Shop will be open from 8am to 1:30pm on Monday 9 October and Tuesday 10 October. 

Due to the College's new website launch on Monday, 25 September, online shop orders may be temporarily unavailable until Tuesday, 26 September.

A large amount of unclaimed clothing has been received in Student Services. Items include academic and sports uniform items. If you have misplaced a uniform item, please check the lost property clothing box outside Sister Janina's Office.

Congratulations to Olivia Wolmarans (Year 10) who is one of 10 players to have been chosen to represent the ACC girls’ team in the All Stars Basketball tri-series against the Independent Girls School Sports Association (IGSSA) and School Sport WA (SSWA) on Sunday 22 October. 

Congratulations to Olaf Skrzypek in Year 7, who was awarded fourth place in the speaking competition on 16 September which was hosted by the Chinese Language Teacher Association in WA. 

This is a very impressive result given Olaf only started to learn Mandarin this year. He has spent his recess and lunchtimes practising his speech and it's lovely to see his hard work pay off. Well done Olaf! - Mrs Emily Tan, Mandarin Teacher

WA da Vinci Decathlon Results

Official results from the WA State da Vinci Decathlon (held in May) have been released, and our Year 7 team placed equal fourth for the legacy section of the competition. This is a wonderful achievement given we only had just over one term to prepare. The legacy component of the competition includes questions relating to the art and history of the Renaissance period. - Miss Sonya Cerny, ACE Teacher

COMBINED ARTS EXHIBITION

OPENING NIGHT

Through strokes of colour, sculpted forms, and innovative techniques, the 2023 Combined Arts Exhibition showcases the artistic exploration of self-expression undertaken by our students, revealing their distinctive perspectives on ‘Identity’.

This immersive exhibition, which unites the disciplines of Visual Arts, Materials & Technology, Media, Drama, Music, and Food Technology, will take place in St Mary’s Hall.

Year 11 Media Studies Visit to Murdoch

The Year 11 Media students visited Murdoch University during Week 8 to attend a workshop on Game Art Drawing and Animation. There, they experienced state-of-the-art VR and AR technology and also tried their hand at pixel and 3D animation. It was an enriching experience for them to see the diverse tertiary courses and industry avenues awaiting them. Many thanks to Murdoch University, Humanities & Creative Media Outreach Officer Jason Dohle, and Student Ambassadors Steven and Hugo for organising and facilitating this excursion.

Year 12 Media - VR Beyond Entertainment

The Year 12 Media class went out to VR Arrival last month to see what the Virtual Reality frontier had to offer. From video games to immersive group experiences, students tried out the technology first-hand.

Virtual Reality is a media format that is improving in leaps and bounds each year. Beyond entertainment, VR has the potential to play a large role in several industries such as education, medicine, engineering, and even mining. Learning how to coordinate yourself in a virtual world is a very niche skill but it may soon come in handy as the technology develops! Special thanks to the staff at VR Arrival for giving our students an amazing opportunity.

Year 9 Light boxes

Visible light is the only part of the electromagnetic spectrum which we can see.  This means we can have a lot of fun with it in the lab.

Year 11 Physics – Sound

Year 11 Physics students were measuring the speed of sound using resonance.

Year 12 Chemistry – Titration Certificates

The results of the Titration Competition are in and Aranmore students have excelled. The Year 12 ATAR Chemistry students participated in this year's Titration Competition in teams of three and managed to beat many other schools including Corpus Christi, Christ Church Grammar, Shenton College, Perth College, and Rossmoyne SHS.

We also had several outstanding individual results, with two Distinctions and a High Distinction out of just 8 entrants!

Well done to all who participated - you certainly did our College proud!

We are saying goodbye Ms Jess Hopkins who filled the shoes of Mr Halden while he was on leave this term. Ms Hopkins covered a variety of Science, IT and HASS classes. We thank Ms Hopkins for her dedication to her students, and while she was only here for a term she took the time to get to know her students and to push them to do the best they could. I am sure they will miss her.
